Listen Records’ Summer Heat Sale

20-50% off everything at Listen Records tomorrow! I’m so there! I’m most likely going to cop Ilaiyaraaja’s Solla Solla compilation, which is devoted to the electronic pop sound of Kollywood. Hopefully, I can also find copies of Sohail Rana’s Khyber Mail, the Sound of Wonder and maybe Psych Funk Sa-Re-Ga! Yup, I’ll be sharing these records on the 5 River Beat. It’s time to eclect-ify the program. Here’s some Solla Solla.

Jassi Sidhu featuring Nindy Kaur – Yaariya

My favorite track off Singing Between The Lines….and it’s produced by Pama Sarai – a Canadian! You’ll definitely hear it again on the program when I review the second quarter and also when I play my top 10 Punjabi tunes from 2011. As I’ve already mentioned on several occasions, you need Singing Between The Lines in your collection. Go demand it at Blackbyrd. We need the local shops to carry Bhangra releases.

WWE Renaissance

It sure is an exciting time to be a WWE fan. I can’t believe they retired McMahon’s character. He’s given us so much over the years. When you mention the Attitude era that shaped my teenage experience of professional wrestling, you always hear people mention Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock. Well, I say McMahon is right up there as one of the essential figures of that period. A cultural icon and somewhat of a father figure to people like me who grew up on wrestling. It’s sad to see him go, but he’s definitely leaving on a high note as the WWE is experiencing somewhat of a renaissance. Thank you Vince!

Good Times

Copping a sweater, hoodie and a Raging Bull Graphic Tee from Urban Outfitters, watching DJ Shadow perform live at the Edmonton Event Centre, eating a Beef Poutine at Mike’s Famous and cruising down Whyte with the Delhi Belly soundtrack, which I highly recommend, penetrating my ears….and doing all of these things with my significant other – DJ Palli J = One Awesome Night🙂
